Why is Lago di Caldaro so warm?

The reason Lago di Caldaro is so warm is due to its maximum depth of 5.6 meters and its water temperature in the summer, which can reach up to 28°C, making it the warmest bathing lake in the Alpine region.

This lake, located at an elevation of 216 meters, is situated 4 kilometers north of the village center of Tramin and 4 kilometers south of the center of the town of Caldaro on the South Tyrolean Wine Road.

The lake covers an area of approximately 9 hectares, and its flat basin is part of an ancient abandoned riverbed of the Etsch river.

Lago di Caldaro offers a tranquil place for visitors to enjoy the stunning views and warm waters.

Klughammer, a sunny spot, sits directly on the northern shore of the lake, while the southern end is rich with diverse wildlife, providing a habitat or a stopover for over 100 bird species on their way south.
